Frequently asked questions
How is CGPA calculated?
Multiply each course's credit unit by its grade point to get quality points. Add up all quality points, then divide by the total credit units. Do this across every semester to get your CGPA.
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA covers one semester only. CGPA (cumulative GPA) covers every semester you have completed so far.
What are the grade points on the 5-point scale?
On the usual Nigerian 5-point scale, A is 5, B is 4, C is 3, D is 2, E is 1 and F is 0. Your department may use a slightly different table, so confirm it in your handbook.
What CGPA is a First Class?
On the common 5-point scale, 4.50 to 5.00 is First Class, 3.50 to 4.49 is Second Class Upper, 2.40 to 3.49 is Second Class Lower, 1.50 to 2.39 is Third Class and 1.00 to 1.49 is a Pass.
Can I raise my CGPA after a low semester?
Yes. Your CGPA is an average across all units, so strong grades in later semesters, especially in high-unit courses, will pull it up. Use the target section of the calculator to see the GPA you need.
